My Classroom

I taught pre-k for many years and had a variety of classrooms! This one is by far, my favorite! I went from a bright hot pink/turquoise theme to neutral and calming decor!

During our day we had literacy group time, math group time, writing workshop/journaling, two recesses, two rounds of center time, and brain break/nap time.
The math center... I used wooden trays and baskets for center games. I also tried to incorporate books and vocabulary into every center. Two of my previous coworkers/mentors taught me that and I have been doing it ever since. Students love to write new words and it is so easy to incorporate themed books into the centers!
ABC center...mix of abc games and writing activities.
Pretend center..
Discovery (science) area...
...and construction area!

  1. I absolutely love your style of classroom. Its so warm and inviting to the children. It also seems to be full snd boring, they must have an excellent time lesrning with all your resources. I was curious at hoe you fund for so much resources. And what do you suggest to a school that doesn't have the funds to supply such great resources? I most definitely would contribute but I can't even spend any money due to hardships. I just want the absolute best for my classroom and thank you for sharing your posts. They definitely send a positive motivation and inspirstion my way.

    1. Thank you so much! Many of the items that I use for centers are from garage sales, donations, clearance sales, and the dollar store. Throughout the year I keep a list of items I would like for my classroom. Over the summer you will likely find me digging through the clearance aisles or rummaging through toys at a garage sale! : ) I also post my list to family and friends on fb. You would be amazed of how many things our classroom has received for free! Last summer I was in the market for extra Mr. Potato head pieces and books for cultural studies. Sometimes I will write a note out to classroom parents asking if they have some of the items they would like to donate. I wrote my first grant this year for our school to receive art books from a local foundation who was offering the grant. We received close to $600 worth of books about art and artists. Another idea is to post on donorschoose.com. Just remember, if you receive a grant, the items have to stay within the school or district. Meaning, if you switch districts, you cannot take the items with you.

  3. Can you tell me where your furniture was ordered from? Especially the square tables and the wicker children's chairs.

    1. The wicker chairs are the AGEN children's armchairs from IKEA and were around $20 I think? They are not listed on the website and I cannot find the link for you. I've ordered 4 online this year. I went to Ikea recently and they still had them. I bought a small square table to hold a sensory plastic tub at Ikea for $7. The larger square tables were ordered through the school but I do not know where from. They have raised edges and don't work well for the kids for writing/drawing. Also, the screws are stripped from screwing in the wobbly legs over and over. Since then we have returned most of them and now we have wood top rectangle tables with sturdy metal legs. I do like the all wood look though! : )
